Body Waxing Facts and Questions
IS IT NORMAL TO BE RED AFTER WAXING?
Any redness or pinking of the skin should disappear within 6 to 8 hours after the waxing treatment. Redness is normal, the hair was removed from the root, rather than superficially broken off, as in shaving. You will notice your regrowth is much slower with waxing.
WAXING BEFORE AN EVENT
We recommend you do not book your wax for your FIRST time before a special occasion. Avoid scheduling an appointment right before a special event, vacation, photoshoots etc. Everyone reacts differently to waxing.. Especially the first time! You can experience redness, sensitivity, bruising or irritations.
WHAT CAN I USE TO RELIEVE IRRITATION OR SENSITIVITY?
Coconut oil and aloe gel/cream will help relieve any sensitivity. You can also use an ice pack for more tender areas.
WHAT IF I AM ALLERGIC TO WAX?
If you are worried about reacting to our products feel free to pop in for a patch test. Our technician will gladly test an area of your skin to see how it reacts.
SHOULD I TRIM BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?
It’s recommended to have 1/4 inch of hair for your waxing appointment. Any longer is fine, if you trim your you risk the quality of service if hair is trimmed too short.
HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT TO BOOK MY APPOINTMENT AFTER SHAVING?
After shaving you should wait 2 1/2 – 3 weeks. Hair ideally should be 1/4 of an inch (about the length of a grain of rice).
CAN I GET WAXED ON MY PERIOD?
Yes, your aesthetician advises you wear a clean tampon before your appointment. Waxing on your period could make you feel more sensitive than normal.
CAN I GET WAXED IF I’M PREGNANT?
Yes it is safe to wax during pregnancy. Waxing while you’re pregnant may cause to feel more sensitive and make you more prone to swelling and lifting. Our aesthetician recommends that you book for a hard was Brazilian during this time.
CAN I WAX AFTER A SPRAY TAN?
We do NOT recommend getting a wax right after a spray tan! The wax will remove the beautiful colour in your skin. Its recommended to come in for a wax 2-5 days prior to your sunless tan.
CAN I WORK OUT AFTER WAXING?
After waxing, you should avoid the gym for at least 24 hours. Intense workouts should be avoided after waxing. Excessive sweating can cause infection and irritate your post-waxing skin.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HARD WAX AND SOFT WAX?
Soft wax is a warm wax which is applied in a thin layer and then removed with a strip. Soft wax is great for larger areas and works for all hair types. Soft wax is available for all services and makes for a quick and efficient appointment!
Hard was is a thicker warm wax which when applied is left to dry for a couple seconds and then is removed on its own. Hard was is great for clients that have dry skin that is more prone to lifting. It’s also recommended for clients with psoriasis, eczema and for coarser hair types. Hard wax is available for all genital waxing.
WHAT IF I HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN?
Sensitive skin does not make for a pleasant waxing experience. If you are sunburnt, have any type of lesions, outbreaks, skin irritations it is best you wait until your skin is healed before an appointment. The best time to wax is a week AFTER your menstrual cycle, when your pain threshold is highest. This also means, some clients will avoid scheduling a wax during that time of the month as there can be more discomfort.
